Hello, I was having a discussion with two yoga teacher friends, all 3 of us have had babies in the last 15 months, all 3 of us are still breastfeeding and all of us have abdominal splits. When we compared notes, we've all been suffering with low back and hip pain, which has become more of an issue as we resume our personal yoga practice and teaching. There seems to be a great deal of conflicting advice about the kinds of postures that should be avoided and done to aid the knitting together of abdominal muscles, and as teachers of the gentle stretches for mothers in Birthlight Baby Yoga, I want to be sure I am guiding others safely, not to mention taking care of myself! Please could I have some advice about safe, healing postures that can actively help this knitting together process - are twists ok? Is a dynamic personal practice more damaging than healing? Any advice would be very gratefully received!
