Comments for journalists?

Hi, I cannot seem to find any guidelines atm, as teachers, are we allowed to give statements/comments about the benefits of pregnancy/post natal yoga to journalists or do we need to check with Francoise/others first? I've been contacted by a photographer working on a picture story about pregnancy yoga, her own experience of it (currently in pregnancy #1) and the benefits to women - I have agreed to meet her to discuss it further, and to potentially pass her details to mothers who might like to be in the photographs, but am not sure where I stand with talking to her for possible quotes? I've left a message at the office for someone to call me too, but wondered if anyone has any experience - I am very wary of the press!

Hi Lucy,

You're right to have contacted the birthlight office and Francoise / Lucia will be able to advise.

Within the Birthlight Guide (Presentation of Birthlight) it has the following para...

Dealing with the news media

If a member of Birthlight is invited to appear in or contribute to any news media (e.g. a TV interview, or newspaper article) they must inform the Birthlight office and if possible send a copy of the article or clip to be archived. Birthlight respects the involvement of members with the media but reserves the right to confirm or deny statements which may or may not represent Birthlight accurately.

Members are encouraged to give Birthlight a summary of the purpose of the appearance, and what they intend to say (if this is known in advance of the appearance). We may ask the member to do and say (or not do and say) certain things in order to protect Birthlight and its reputation; if members do not agree to the requests made, they may seek arbitration from a Birthlight Director or a Trustee. Media appearances that contravene the guidelines of the Charity Commission must be declined outright.

I hope this helps.

Thank you - I went around in circles trying to find that yesterday! I knew I'd read it somewhere. Many thanks
