Hi everyone,

I know there were a few posts on the last/old forum with regards to this topic and a few of you have experience of the companies who provide this service, and also the general experience you have had from doing such a structured event.

I wasn't sure how or if I could access the old forum if there are any archived areas but could anyone please remind me of your own thoughts and experiences of these, particularly if you used Urchin Rock or Waterbaby for these shoots.

Many thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

I will try and retrieve an exchange of correspondence in which I was involved on this topic but if you email Sally and Amanda (Dolphin Birthlight Swimschool) you might get copies of old postings sooner and also a current view from them on these photo shoots and the various companies that offer them. Parents are keen to have photos of their babies under water but if this is achieved through forcing the babies under several times to get the best shot, then it's not acceptable. Some babies perform well at these photo shoots but a few days later it transpires that they have been affected by the shoot and some babies take several weeks of classes to get back to their spontaneous relaxed relationship with the water, so teachers should be weary of this. Finally I have an issue with the commercial nature of some of the photo shoots for underwater babies, it can amount to an exploitation of the babies, the parents and also the teachers. If teachers make a lot of money from these shoots through a good business agreement with the photography company, they also need to consider their motivation and act in the best interests of the parents and babies first and foremost. Making money is a good thing but we need to be clear about our Code of Ethics and Good Practice. If all is fine, a small donation to the Birthlight Trust could buy a place for a special baby or small child in one of Amanda's special classes and this would be great.

Best wishes to you, Jo

Francoise

Within the Members area there is also some Guidance for Underwater Photo Shoots

I hope this helps
